Kelly Olson has served as the administrator of the Idaho Barley Commission for the past 23½ years and directs research, market development, policy and grower education programs for Idaho’s barley producers. In this capacity, Kelly collaborates annually with University of Idaho Extension, USDA Agricultural Research Service and private sector partners to conduct risk management and marketing education programs for grain producers across the state.
Prior to joining the Idaho Barley Commission in July 1994, Kelly was the Administrator of the Marketing Division for the Idaho State Department of Agriculture, where she helped establish the marketing division in 1987 and helped open international trade offices in Taiwan and Mexico. Kelly also served as an agricultural and natural resource legislative assistant in Washington, D.C. in the mid 1980s. Kelly is an alumnus of Leadership Idaho Agriculture (LIA), and was a founding member of the annual Idaho Ag Summit Policy Forum. She served as secretary-treasurer of the National Barley Growers Association from 1995-1997 and 2996-2008 and remains an advisor on crop insurance and trade issues.
